Nemesius didn't quit
[4th c.]
During the early 4th century in Egypt, Nemesius was arrested for stealing. Innocent, he quickly cleared himself of the charge, but he was accused of being a Christian, too, and of this he was quite guilty. He persisted through torture as he watched four fellow Christians get their limbs disjointed on a rack. When at last Nemesius was burned at the stake — positioned between two thieves, just as Jesus had been when he was crucified — the saint beamed with joy.
