Lucy : (
[4th c.]
Lucy’s mother, a non-Christian with a blood disorder, didn’t approve of Lucy’s faith. She arranged for Lucy to be married to a pagan, but after Lucy’s prayers cured her mother’s illness, her mother recognized the power of God, called off the wedding, and allowed Lucy to spread her dowry among the poor.
News of this gift got back to Lucy’s ex-fiancé, who alerted the governor that she was a Christian. The governor ordered Lucy to be defiled at a brothel, but when the guards came to take her away, she wouldn’t move, even when they tied her body to a team of oxen. They stabbed her to death, but not before cutting out eyes.
