John Bosco is the Mr. Rogers of saints
[1815-1888]
When John Bosco was 9, he had a dream: in a schoolyard, a group of boys were laughing and having a good time — but some were cussing up a storm. Offended, John rushed up to them, shouting and raising his fists , when an angel appeared and told him, "You must win the hearts of these friends of yours not with blows, but with sweetness and charity."
When he woke up, John had an idea to help these lost kids. A sporty rascal, he devoted himself to acrobatics. He learned to juggle, and magic tricks too. Then he started a neighborhood circus, called the Happy Club. He put on a great one-man show, and his wisest trick of all was this: in order to watch, the other boys had to recite the Rosary.
Now, his legacy lives on in unexpected ways. Among them, this how-to video from the St. John Bosco Juggling Guild, a club in the St. Benedict Integrated Homeschool Program of Imlay City, Michigan. Ya gotta juggle!
