[961-984]
Edith’s father was an English king called Edgar the Peaceful, but his nickname belies the sketchy circumstances of her birth. Whether by force or charm, it’s never said, but Edgar abucted Edith’s mother, Wulfthryth, from Wilton Abbey, where she lived as a nun. After a year together, during which time the (unmarried) couple had Edith, Wulfthryth returned to the convent with their daughter in tow. And that’s where Edith lived her whole life. Even after Edgar was dead and his son murdered, and noblemen sought to elevate her to queen, Edith refused to ever leave Wilton Abbey.
