Desiderius butt in
[d. 608]
Brunhilda, an ambitious Visigoth princess, married the Austrasian king. His brother, the king of Nustria, thought she was so great that he married her sister, but his mistress (that is, the king of Nustria’s mistress) killed her (the sister) and Brunhilda's husband to boot. A few years later, Brunhilda married her dead husband's dead brother's son, her nephew, which drew condemnation of incest from a bishop named Desiderius. He was banished from the kingdom, and when he tried to come back four years later he was killed. As for Brunhilda, she continued serving as Queen during the childhood reins of her son, grandson, and great-grandson, before she was ultimately tied to the feet of wild horses, torn apart limb from limb, then set on fire.
