Constantine was Scotland's first martyr
[d. 576]
Kilchousland Chapel, now mere ruins, was built on the site of the death of Scotland's first martyr, Constantine. A king of Cornwall, he abandoned his station after an eventful hunting trip, when he came across a stag being protected by a saint, and entered a monastery. Years later, he was on a mission in Campbeltown Loch with some fellow monks when he was attacked by a party of either robbers or pirates, who hacked off his right arm and left him to bleed to death.
