Abbán's lonesome shrine
[d. 520]
If conflicting stories of Abbán are true, he lived in Ireland for 300 years. In the woods just outside Ballyvourney is a shrine at the site of his death, which was once inside a cell in a church that he built, and is now a few mossy rocks. Deeper into the forest, hikers might find a simple stone covering the saint’s long-forgotten well.
